Characteristic features:
Colour:

Grey on dorsal surface of sides of head, trunk, and tail, shading to paler grey on the flanks, abruptly white on lateral and ventral surfaces and lower base of caudal fin; waterline (demarcation of dark dorsal and pale ventral colours) diffuse, extending below eye on head

Size:

Maximum size up to 204 cm TL; birth size 56–61 cm TL.

Distribution:

Found throughout the tropical Indo–West Pacific.

Habitat:

Occurs in fresh and brackish waters, such as large rivers and muddy estuaries.

Biology:

Probably feeds on fish and also stingrays. Length at maturity is estimated at about 178 cm TL (Compagno 2005). Reproductive mode is viviparous.
