Characteristic features:
Colour:

Pale green above, silvery white below; a diffuse dark spot on margin of opercule; a dark spot at pectoral-fin axil; small blue spots on sides in adults; fins pale yellow-green.

Size:

Up to 65 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Occurs in coastal waters over sandy bottoms, sometimes on or near coral reefs. Juveniles found in lower estuarine areas.

Biology:

Feeds primarily on fishes. Adults from large schools.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught mainly by hook-and-line but also trawls.
