Characteristic features:
Colour:

Brassy to yellow-green above, silver below; opercular spot white; fine black spots on sides; caudal fin upper lobe dusky, lower lobe dusky to yellow with white trailing margin, other fins dusky.

Size:

To 68 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Adults found on seaward reefs from the surface to 100 m. Juveniles found in estuary areas.

Biology:

Feeds primarily on fishes. Found in solitary or occurs in schools. Size at maturity is estimated to be between 15.0 and 17.0 cm. Age at maturity is estimated at 18 months. Maximum age recorded is 3.5 years.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught by bottom trawling, traps and hook-and-line.
