Characteristic features:
Colour:

Blueish green above, silver below, black blotch on upper edge of operculum. Pelvic and anal fins pale dusky to white, caudal fin red.

Size:

Up to 45 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Associated with deep water reefs, from 100 to 300 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds primarily on planktonic invertebrates. Forms schools or occurs in small groups on reef slopes.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught with mid-water trawls.
