Characteristic features:
Colour:

Head and body brown to yellowish-grey, no bars on head near gill opening, white stripe extending from mouth, sometimes borded by a yellow stripe, caudal fin uniformly dark.

Size:

Up to 38 cm.

Distribution:

Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Coral reefs, from 8 to 185 m depth.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught by gillnets, traps and drive-in nets.
