Characteristic features:
Colour:
Head and body yellow with a blackish bar through eye and a broader dark bar on middle of body, 1st dorsal fin dark, other fins yellowish.
Size:
Up to 25 cm TL.
Distribution:
Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.
Habitat:
Coral reefs, to 50 m depth.
Similar species:
A distinct species easily recognisable from other Serranid species due having a yellow body with a blackish bar through eye and a broader dark bar on middle of body.
