Characteristic features:

Colour:

Back and sides reddish grading to pink, a series of yellow stripes below lateral line and a series of yellow oblique lines above lateral line, fins pale yellow, except pelvic fins which are frequently pale yellow/white.

Size:

Up to 26 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Occasionally found on coral reefs between 10 and 20 m, but also found in deeper water to 150 meters.

Biology:

A rarely caught species, infrequently seen in fish markets. Little is know about its biology or ecology.

Indonesian fisheries:

Mainly caught with deep handlines.
