Characteristic features:
Colour:

Blueish grey to green above, silver below. Dark vertical bands sometimes present above lateral line; other fins pale.

Size:

Up to 20 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Shallow coastal waters, from the surface to 60 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds on planktonic crustaceans and larval fish.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught mainly by hook-and-line and gill netting.
