Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Exposed coral reefs, from 5 to 40 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds on zooplankton and sponges. Froms large aggregations.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught by gillnets, trawls and drive-in nets.

Similar species:

A distinct species easily identifiable due to its deeply lunate caudal fin, anteriorly elevated soft dorsal and anal fins and 2 upper teeth canine-like and projecting forward.
