Characteristic features:
Colour:

Body whitish with 4 dark brown to blackish stripes on sides; adults becoming overall brownish, whitish below.

Size:

Up to 20 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Juveniles restricted to freshwater streams and brackish estuarine areas such as mangroves to 4 m depth. Adult habitat is unknown.

Biology:

Occurs in small groups. A seldom seen species, with little known about its biology or ecology.

Indonesian fisheries:

Unknown.

Similar species:

A distinct species due to its colouration. Not likely to be confused with other Lutjanus species.
