Head and body reddish with vivid yellow bars, pelvic fins with black tips.

Size:

Up to 43 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo–West Pacific.

Habitat:

Deep coral reefs, from 80 to 250 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds primarily on fishes and crustaceans.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught with hook-and-line and in traps.

Similar species:

A distinct species, easily identified by having head and body reddish with vivid yellow bars.
