Characteristic features:
Colour:

Yellowish grey to brownish with darker scale centres, yellow fins with dark edges.

Size:

Up to 75 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Coral reefs, to 50 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds on sea urchins, crustaceans, molluscs and tube worms.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught by gillnets, traps, handlines and drive-in nets.

Pseudobalistes flavimarginatus

Pseudobalistes flavimarginatus differs in having anterior part of cheek without scales, the posterior part with scales smaller than those on body (vs. cheek scaled) and outer margins of soft dorsal, anal and caudal fins orange-yellow (vs. outer margins of those fins blackish).
