Characteristic features:
  1. No gill rakers on first gill arch but with rough platelets each bearing small spines
  2. Many dark bars on sides
  3. 120–130 lateral-line scales
Colour:

Silver to grey, many dark bars on sides are very faint in small fish, posterior fins mostly blackish.

Size:

Up to 140 cm TL.

Important conditions and life stages:

Juveniles and small specimens with very faint bars.

Distribution:

Indo–West and Central Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Pelagic near coral reefs, to 50 m depth.

Indonesian fisheries:

Unknown.
