Characteristic features:

  2. Many dark bars on sides, oblique above lateral line but nearly vertical below
Colour:

Silvery, many dark bars on sides oblique above lateral line but nearly vertical below, caudal fin yellowish with dark margin in young.

Size:

Up to 140 cm TL.

Important conditions and life stages:

Juveniles with caudal fin yellowish with dark margin.

Distribution:

Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Inshore pelagic near reefs, to 60 m depth.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught by trawls, set nets and gill nets.
