Characteristic features:
Colour:

Mainly red, paler on lower sides and belly.

Size:

Up to 80 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West and Central Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Rocky bottoms, from 90 to 360 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds primarily on small fishes. Little else is know about its biology or ecology.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught mainly with deep handlines.
