Characteristic features:
Colour:

Brownish on back, light pink to silvery on side, belly white. 6 orange stripes on sides, uppermost 4 slanted up towards dorsal-fin soft rays and a brown/golden spot on pectoral-fin ray axil.

Size:

Up to 25 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Adults inhabit coral reefs in shallow waters from the surface to at least 30 m depth.

Biology:

A rarely caught species infrequently seen in fish markets. Little is know about its biology or ecology.

Indonesian fisheries:

Unknown.

Similar species:

A distinct species due to its colouration. Not likely to be confused with other Lutjanus species.
