Head and body reddish brown, pelvic-fin base with indistinct dark blotch.

Size:

Up to 18 cn TL.

Distribution:

Western Central Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Inshore, in protected or silty reef areas from 5 to 33 m depth.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught in trawls and gill nets.

Cephalopholis leopardus

Cephalopholis leopardus differs in having a black saddle on caudal peduncle (vs. no black saddle); no dark blotch at pectoral-fin base (vs. dark blotch present) and a dark line on upper caudal fin (vs. no dark lines).
