Characteristic features:
Colour:

Blue to greyish with yellow spots forming a network pattern on sides, soft dorsal, anal, and caudal fin margins light blue.

Size:

Up to 55 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Coral reefs, to 50 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds on crustaceans, urchins, molluscs and tunicates. Occurs in solitary.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught with gillnet, traps, handlines and drive-in nets.

Pseudobalistes flavimarginatus

Pseudobalistes flavimarginatus differs in having 5 or 6 longitudinal scale ridges on caudal peduncle (vs. no scale ridges); soft dorsal and anal fins rounded anteriorly (vs. elevated anteriorly) and outer margin of soft dorsal and anal fins orange (vs. these fins brown).
