Characteristic features:
Colour:

Purplish or brownish violet with numerous yellow spots and blotches on sides, upper caudal-fin lobe mostly bright yellow.

Size:

Up to 50 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West and Central Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Rocky reefs, from 80 to 360 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds primarily on fishes but also salps. Mean values of age and length at maturity are 1.8 years and 24.5 cm, respectively. Estimated maximum age is 8 years.1

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught mainly with handlines.

Caesionidae
Fusiliers

Paracaesio auricilla are difficult to distinguish from Caesionidae.
