Characteristic features:
Colour:

Dark green to brownish with many curved orange lines, large round black blotch around peduncular spines, fins yellow and orange.

Size:

Up to 30 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Coral reefs, to 50 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds on live coral, algae, crustaceans, molluscs, tunicates and fishes.

Similar species:

A distinct species easily identifiable by having caudal peduncle with 2 longitudinal rows of large spines (usually within a dark blotch) and dark green to brownish colouration with many curved orange lines.
