Characteristic features:
Colour:

Head and body bluish green, silvery below; pelvic fin membranes black with the rays white at the base, other fins pale. Juvenile have indistinct dark bands and opercular spots.

Size:

Up to 27 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Shallow coastal waters including mangroves, coastal bays and reefs, from the surface to 80 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds primarily on crustaceans such as shrimps, copepods crabs and also small fishes.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught by bottom trawling, traps and hook-and-line.

Similar species:

Carangoides spp.

Carangoides coeruleopinnatus
Turrum coeruleopinnatus

Carangoides spp. differ without deep groove in the middle of belly (vs. a deep groove present) and pelvic fins not conspicuously long and back (vs. long and black).
