Characteristic features:
Colour:

Body light grey or tan with scattered irregular dark blotches; head brown or tan; fins pale.

Size:

Up to 27 cm TL.

Habitat:

Near reefs, from 5 to 35 m depth.

Biology:

Found in solitary or in small groups.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught with shore seine and trawl.

Similar species:

Lethrinus semicinctus
Blackblotch emperor

Lethrinus semicinctus

Lethrinus semicinctus differs in having a large, diffuse black blotch on sides (vs. no large black blotch on sides) and 4–7 scales in supratemporal patch (vs. 6–10).
