Characteristic features:
Colour:

Blue-grey above, silver white below; no opercular spot; 2nd dorsal fin with a distinct black lobe anteriorly; caudal fin pale yellow; other fins whitish.

Size:

Up to 22 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Adults found in coastal waters and sometimes over coastal reefs. Juveniles sometimes found in estuaries.

Biology:

Little is know about the biology and ecology of this species.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught mainly by hook-and-line and bottom trawls.

Flavocaranx bajad differs in having the second dorsal-fin lobe without black markings (vs. a black blotch on lobe with white tip); numerous orange-yellow spots on body (vs. body without spots) and a vomerine tooth patch with posterior medial extension (vs. without posterior medial extension).
