Characteristic features:
Colour:

Greyish brown or olive, fins reddish with caudal fin darkest. Fish from deep water frequently reddish.

Size:

Up to 65 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Coral and rocky reefs, and also muddy habitats, from 70 to 80 m depth.

Biology:

Feeds primarily on fishes, but also benthic invertebrates. Found in solitary or in small groups. Estimations regarding size or age at maturity are unknown. Maximum age is unknown.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught mainly with handlines, traps, and occasionally with bottom trawls.

Similar species:

Lutjanus vitta (Kakap garis cokelat) dan spesies muda Lutjanus biguttatus (Kakap bintik dua) dapat tampak mirip dengan spesies muda Lutjanus lemniscatus karena memiliki garis tengah gelap tunggal dari mata ke pangkal sirip ekor, tetapi dikatakan berbeda karena memiliki tonjolan gigi vomerin yang memanjang ke belakang di tengah (vs tidak memanjang ke belakang di tengah), di mana L. vitta memiliki sirip ekor kuning (vs kehitaman) dan L. biguttatus memiliki tubuh memanjang (vs tinggi).
