Characteristic features:
Colour:

Bluish grey with many orange–brown spots forming lines on head; dorsal and caudal fins greyish with dense orange–brown spots.

Size:

Up to 60 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Reefs and sandy areas, to 25 m depth.

Biology:

Found in solitary or in small groups.

Similar species:

Diagramma pictum
Painted sweetlips

Diagramma pictum differs in having 10 or 11 dorsal fin spines (vs. 12 or 13).
