Characteristic features:
Colour:

Silvery with blackish spots on upper body forming faint vertical bars, and adults becoming golden in colour with very faint or no vertical bars. Juveniles silvery green above grading through golden silver to silvery white below; small dark brown spots and irregular blotches make up 12 or more vertical bars; dorsal fin spotted.

Size:

Up to 80 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo–West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Inshore waters, including estuaries and up rivers in brackish water, to 75 m depth.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught with handlines, set nets, trap and spear.
