Adults dark grey sometimes with a a diffuse dark bar through eye and dark operculum edge. Juveniles brownish grey sometimes with few large pale saddles or blotches.

Size:

Up to 70 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Close to reefs, to 25 m depth.

Biology:

Found in solitary.

Plectorhinchus unicolor differs in having opercular margin bright reddish (vs. dark grey to brownish); inside of mouth reddish (vs. dark grey to brownish); soft dorsal-fin base as long or longer than head (vs. soft dorsal-fin base shorter than head) and 18–21 soft rays (vs. 15–17).
