Characteristic features:
Colour:

Blue-green above, silvery below; small diffuse black spot above opercle sometimes present; small blue-black blotches on back between bases of second dorsal-fin rays; dorsal fin pale to yellowish; caudal-fin lower lobe yellowish, upper lobe dusky blue; anal, pectoral and pelvic fins pale yellow.

Size:

Up to 46 cm TL.

Distribution:

Indo-West Pacific in tropical waters.

Habitat:

Associated with coastal reefs as well as sand and rubble habitats. Juveniles found in estuaries.

Biology:

Occurs solitarily and in small schools. Little else is known about the biology and ecology of this species.

Indonesian fisheries:

Caught mainly by hook-and-line; also with gill nets and traps.
